What our group did

Problem Statement:

  • We used a matrix grid to choose what problem statement to use.
  • How might we have a portable heater to have warm showers anywhere?

Prototype:

  • We took note of our mentor’s feedback ,safety issues and user’s needs and changed it by doing 3 prototypes and choosing one. We then improved on that prototype.
  • We listed pros and cons about everything and tested the prototype. We met up with each other at our houses and built it.
  • We compiled the information into a slideshow to present to the judges.

Challenges We Faced & How We Overcame Them

In the end, we managed to get Distinction for our project!

One of the challenges we faced was getting the right temperature for the shower water. We researched that the temperature most people are comfortable showering in is between 37 degrees celsius to 40 degrees celsius, and no more than 41 degrees celsius. However, the water temperature was at 42.7 degrees celsius or higher, which was too hot to shower in. In the end, we found out that if we used cold water in the start for heating up, the temperature would be lower, thus we tested it out and our challenge was solved.
