Week 8, term 3
Before we start…..Activate
Step 1. Watch my video for help
Step 2. Grab the bag of lollies that Miss Mooney sent home.
Step 3. Create a name tag for each person in your house and place it on a flat surface.
Step 4. Share the amount of lollies in your bag with the people in your household.
Think?......
Are the groups equal or fair?
Are the groups uneven?
How many did you begin with and how many does each person get?
Write your findings in your book
E.g. I had 14 chocolates and I shared them equally/fairly or unequally/unfairly between 2 people. Each person would get 7 chocolates. Draw a picture to show your work.
Learning Intention: To use a range of mental strategies and concrete materials for division.
Success Criteria:
I can:
Look at the following slide about division as an introduction and read it with someone.

Example
Use a collection of objects/counters to model making equal groups e.g 30 counters, make as many equal groups of 5 as you can. Use skip counting to determine the number of counters.
Warm Up….
You will need:
-counters
- workbooks
ou have 12 counters. The counters represent eggs that you will use to bake banana cakes for the school fete. How many banana cakes can you make if each cake needs 2 eggs.
Repeat activity but now you have a new recipe for chocolate cake that needs 3 eggs for each cake ad you have 12 eggs again. Demonstrate your working out and groups using counters. How many chocolate cakes could you bake using the 12 eggs?
Will you be able to bake more or less chocolate cakes than banana cakes?
