  • Custom Template: Google Classroom Header

  • Pick Lighter colors because the banner will appear darker once it is uploaded.

  • Google may crop your picture in a variety of ways.

  • Your name, meeting link and class code will still appear on the left hand side of the banner.

  • The color of the header determines the Google Classroom color scheme such as headings, icons etc.

  • Naming Topics - By subject, date, day of the week, unit etc. Create a “TODAY” topic at the top of the page so students know what is happening today. Then, move it down to a subject or weekly topic. Make sure you have a consistent naming convention. Ex. Week 1: Sept. 9-13

  • Early Finishers - Create a Class or Topic for Early finishers

  • Homework - After the title of the assignment add the amount of minutes it will take to complete. This will help students plan their time.

  • Organizing Topics - Topics will also appear in a list of the left side of the screen.
    • New work at the top?
    • Scrolling?
  • Finding Assignments - (Ctrl F)

  • Other Resources - textbooks, website links, notes, slide shows etc.

  • Old Assignments - Move assignments to this topic

  • The Google Chrome extension called Emoji Keyboard has fun icons that can be used in many ways. 😄😎💜🎁🌸

  • Emojis and bitmojis can be used when you are grading assignments.

  • Emoji’s can be used to spice up topics and comment boxes.

  • Consider using digital stickers as well. You can find them on TPT. Just type in Digital Stickers and select Free.

  • Scheduling Assignments for future use.

  • Scheduling Announcements for future use.

  • Move to Top - Keeps important information at the top of the stream. You can drag and drop in Classwork.

  • Sending assignments or announcements to certain students.

  • Save Draft - Automatically saves your assignments if you exit out before finishing.

  • Use the Arrow to move from student to student when grading

  • Using the Drop down menu to select certain students

  • Reuse Post - Can reuse posts even if they are archived. This can be very helpful especially if you have multiple classes.

  • Make sure you know the title or date of your post. There is no search feature at this time.

  • Grading by going to “To Review” under the pancake on the top right on your screen.

  • Quiz Assignment: Automatically gives you a Google Form to create a quiz.

  • Question Assignment: Allows you to type a question or prompt for students to answer or discuss. You can also add various types of media as well. Students must first submit their answer before seeing other classmates answers. Works great as an Exit Ticket!! NOTE: You must enable students to comment in settings if you want them to comment to other students posts.

  • Material Assignment: This assignment does not get graded. You can add a link, file, video, or Google Drive document. This works well for e-books, resources, or other documents.

  • Private Comment Box - Students will see this when they come into their assignment without opening their document. Once you type your comment and click post

You can’t edit or delete.

  • Add a Comment - Allows you to type a comment and/or provide a link to a video, website or document.

You can also use Mote to record up to a 30

second audio comment. Right click with your

mouse to bring up comments.

  • Comment Bank - Used for frequently used comments in the add a comment feature.

Once you have added a comment type the # sign to access your comment bank.

  • Click on the gear icon to set up grade settings.

  • There are several different ways to set up grading in Google Classroom. Here is a youtube video that explains it.

  • Also, on the far left hand side of your screen click on the 3 lines that look like a stack of pancakes to see your email settings.

A rubric within Google Classroom is a type of grading form which consists of a set of criteria, each have several descriptive levels, with a numerical grade assigned to it.
