Heart Screening- Year 2

  • The Kyle J. Taylor Foundation has provided 3 on-campus heart screening opportunities for LGSUHSD student athletes
    • Almost 700 of our 1300 student athletes were screened last year
  • The screening includes a cardiac risk assessment, EKG, & doctor review, and takes about 40 minutes to complete.
    • Good for 2 years
  • Studies show that EKGs are the preferred screening method to detect heart abnormalities, given that heart conditions often have unrecognized warning signs & risk factors
  • Link to Sign up for Heart Screening https://www.kylejtaylor.org/screenings

  • Fall 2025 Heart Screening is Saturday August 9th at Saratoga HS
      • Heart Screenings must be completed as soon as possible.
      • Preference is before you tryout or join a fall, winter or spring sports team
        • If you cannot complete this before the start of your season please get it done ASAP
  • All Freshman and any athlete who did not get screened last year must complete this process.

Sports Practices Begin After 7th Period

  • All sports practices on ORANGE (odd period) days will begin after 7th period finishes (3:55 PM).
  • Students who are not enrolled in a 7th period class will want to think about where you want to go to study and get homework done before practice starts on ORANGE days (i.e., between 2:20-3:55).
  • Some possible options at LGHS include enrollment in 7th period sports PE course, the school library and a classroom that you have on your schedule if your teacher is present.
  • Please talk with your family about a routine to set up on those days so that you can set yourself up for academic success.
  • Non mandatory team meetings and film study are allowed during 7th period

Statewide Officials Shortage

  • California is experiencing a shortage of officials.
  • Many are walking away from officiating games because of the constant abuse they receive from spectators.
  • Please understand that officials do their job for the same reason coaches coach.
    • They enjoy working with kids.
    • They understand the value of education-based athletics.
    • They want to give back to their communities.
  • Spectators must do a better job of being supportive of their teams and athletes. Focus on what we are doing right not what the other team or officials are doing wrong.
  • Spectators cannot constantly yell at our officials telling them how awful they are.
  • This year we will have many sports that have to adjust their games because there are no longer enough officials to work games.
  • If spectator behavior does not change, we will run out of officials…

Spectator Expectations

Los Gatos High School and the SCVAL insist on the following:

  • The safety of the competitors, fans, and personnel conducting the event
  • Respect for the game and competing with honor and sportsmanship
  • That spectator behavior at school athletic events reflects these same values

The CCS sportsmanship policy states that “at any CCS Playoff Event, Charging the ‘Field of Play’ by spectators, or other unauthorized persons, during or after the contest is an unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated.” The SCVAL and its Board of Managers adopted this policy for all contests. Charging the field of play after the game creates an unsafe environment.
