I am so excited for a new school year! I cannot wait to get to know your child and teach them as much as I can during our time together in first grade!

I believe that the parent-child-teacher connection is integral to success in school. I am here to support you and your child and will always be their advocate. I hope you let me know if you have any concerns about home or school life. Your child’s happiness and overall well-being are priorities to me during their time in first grade. I want them to feel safe and loved within the walls of our room and in our entire school!

CLASS RULES

Here at Bradley Elementary we believe in the B.E.A.R. Essentials. This is a schoolwide expectation that will be followed in our classroom.

B.E.A.R. Essentials are:

• Be honest and kind
• Expect to be challenged to do our best
• Act responsibly, even when no one is watching
• Respect myself, others, and my surroundings
• Show resilience and courage always

Everyday students will get a report of their day in their homework folders on their behavior chart.

Parents are also encouraged to check our Class Dojo to see if your child earned or lost any points throughout the day. More information about Class Dojo will be found in that section.

CONSEQUENCES

In the place of a student not following classroom expectations and rules, these are the following steps of action.

​

1. Verbal Warning
2. Redirect
3. Calm Down Corner (quiet place to sit in classroom to calm down and think about certain behavior and how to fix it)
4. Consequence
5. Parent contact

Anytime your child receives a consequence, it will be marked in their daily behavior folder. Checks, stickers, and smiley faces mean good day! :)

SUPPLIES

School Supplies Needed Per Student:

• 4 Crayons (Crayola, regular size, 24 count)
• Markers (Crayola, ultra clean wash, thick, 8 count)
• 4 Dry erase markers (Expo, black, chisel tip)
• 6 Glue stick (Elmer’s, washable, purple, .77 oz.)
• Scissors (Fiskars, 5”, pointed tip)
• 2 Erasers (pink, bevel, latex-free)
• 2 Composition notebook (wide ruled, black marble, 100 count)
• 3 Pocket folders (plastic with brads, 1 each: red, blue, yellow)
• 24 Pencils (Dixon Ticonderoga, no. 2, pre-sharpened)
• School box (plastic, 8.5” x 5.75” x 2.5”)
• Copy paper (white, 1 ream / 500 sheets - girls only)
• Headphones (Koss/Maxell, adjustable)
• Tissues (Scotties, 110 count)

• Baby wipes (Unscented, soft pack, 80 count)
• Cardstock (white, 8.5” x 11”, 65 lb., 25 count)
• Tablet Paper (1/2 ruled, red baseline, 8.5” x 11”, 40 count)

ATTENDANCE

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is very important to his or her success. Please view school as a priority and see that your child attends school every day except in cases of illness or emergency. Absences are excused for specific reasons (sickness, appointments, etc.) but I will need a written note in order to excuse it in the computer system. An e-mail is sufficient for this! Thank you for letting me know ahead of time if your child will be out for any reason.

SNACK

Each day we have a “working snack” around 9:00 am. Please do not send in candy or anything containing peanuts as a snack. Granola bars, crackers, fruit, etc. are great options! Your child may also keep a water bottle in the classroom throughout the day. Water bottles should contain water only. Please no juices, sodas, teas, etc.

BACKPACKS

Everyday students should have the following items in their backpack. An extra change of clothes is also recommended because accidents and messes happen! Please make sure all items are labeled with your student’s name.

BIRTHDAYS

I love celebrating birthdays and making someone feel special on their day! If you also would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with special treats, please provide me with at least one week notice. This way we can make arrangements for students with allergies and get the correct head count.

CAMP

Everyday students will spent 30 minutes in art or music and then another 30 minutes in P.E.

CAMP time is 9:20-10:20.

Homework packets will be sent home on Monday in student’s homework folders. Along with the packet, at least 20 minutes of reading a day is advised.

Homework is optional however; it is HIGHLY encouraged. Students that turn in completed homework will be rewarded with a dojo points.

Not all assignments will be graded! If you see a check, note, or sticker, just know I have seen it.
