What Counts?

  • Science AND non-science based projects
  • Can be lab based or not
  • Any research that involves data analysis, collection, entering or writing-up

What are Med-Schools Looking For?

  • Any basic and social sciences, clinical, and humanities research
  • One full year of research, preferably in a lab setting, makes your research background stand out
  • 80 - 90% of applicants have research experience

What Kind of Research Should I Do?

  • ANYTHING that you are genuinely interested in while showing your ability to decipher and analyze data
  • Most common: lab and science research

What Do PI’s Look For In An Applicant?

  • Undergrads who are devoted and committed to the sciences, demonstrating life-long learning
  • Individuals who are able to commit quality time towards research
  • Willing and able to work with others and communicate effectively

How Many Hours Should I Complete?

Quality > Quantity

  • No minimum
    • Applicants tend to have 400 - 2,000 hours

It is not required to gain funding, but it never hurts! There are many programs that can pay for parts of your tuition or will pay for you to do research.
