THE PROBLEM

  • Using taxis is inconvenient and expensive.
  • Taxis are difficult to reserve, inflexible, and drivers are often unfriendly.
  • Sometimes drivers deliberately take longer routes, causing higher costs.

MARKET SIZE

  • The total U.S. market size for taxi services was $11.2 billion in 2009.
  • The total market size for taxi services in California was $1.05 billion.
  • The total market size for taxi services in San Francisco was $142 million.

THE SOLUTION

  • The Uber Ridesharing mobile app connects passengers with private drivers.
  • Passengers can reserve a ride on their phone and are quoted a fixed price.
  • We allow riders and drivers to rate each other, reinforcing good behavior.

OUR TEAM

  • Travis Kalanick, Co-founder. Previous startup experience at Scour and Red Swoosh, two peer-to-peer sharing companies.
  • Garrett Camp, Co-founder. Founder of StumbleUpon, sold for $75M to eBay.

BUSINESS MODEL

  • Our mobile app connects riders with drivers.
  • We don’t own any vehicles, and our drivers are not employees, but freelancers.
  • We receive 20-30% percent of the fare charged for each ride.

TRACTION TO-DATE

  • In the past year, we coordinated 750 rides in San Francisco.
  • This year, we have coordinated 4,800 rides so far (April 2010).
  • Our ride volume increases by about 28% every month.

NEXT STEPS

  • We are now raising funds to grow beyond San Francisco.

Y1 revenue: ~5,550 rides @ 25% of $32 avg fare = $44,400

Y2 projected revenue (SF + LA): $1,406,165

  • Amount to be raised: $1M within the next 6 months.
  • Use of funds: Start the Uber services in Los Angeles. Run a marketing campaign to sign up more drivers and riders. Hire two f/t mobile app developers.
