Committee Charge

The Teaching Quality Committee at NYU, sponsored by the Office of the Provost, will research, review, and recommend best practices to define, support, measure, and honor teaching excellence at NYU.

Background and Context

Inspired by The Boyer 2030 Commission Report, which discusses the “equity/excellence imperative,” the Provost’s Office is committed to developing mechanisms that lead to enhancements in teaching and improve student learning outcomes.

Guideposts

Presidential and Provostial Priorities

  • Student flourishing, retention and graduation rates
  • Supporting and raising the visibility of quality teaching

Recommendation from the Self-Study Report

  • Convene a group of thought leaders to review processes and practices that span units.
  • Identify leadership for finding, elevating, and scaling educational best practices across our global network.
  • Explore ways to further elevate the praxis of teaching through rewards and recognition associated with the continuous improvement and evolution of one’s teaching practice.

Provocation from the Boyer 2030 Report

  • How will we ensure that our students — all of them, without exception — are educated using evidence-informed pedagogies in intentionally inclusive and empathy-based environments?
