Tool

Climate Financing Options (CCFLA toolkit)

Description:

The cities climate finance leadership alliance (CCFLA) has a comprehensive toolkit that showcases potential financial instruments, highlighting case studies and demonstrating practical applications of instruments in the field. These tools are divided into two main parts. The web-based financial instruments library presents different financial instruments available for urban climate projects. The financial instrument case studies repository (excel) provides examples of successful financial instrument implementations.

Goal

Become acquainted with the financial instruments toolkit from CCFLA and identify the financing options most suitable for your city (depending on city size and income level), and also depending on the sector or climate objective you are pursuing.

Tasks

Step 1. Get to know the work from CCFLA and the toolkit for financial instruments. Identify the two filters related for your city – size: small, medium, large and income-level: high, medium, low-income country

Step 2. Use the financial instruments library to get an overview of state-of-the-art financial instruments available for urban climate projects. Browse the library selecting different filters using the menu on the left. Hover and click on financial instruments (dots) to learn more about them. You can test several possibilities e.g. focusing on two or three specific sectors, or if you are looking for mitigation or adaptation possibilities

Step 3. You need now to take time to understand what each of the financing possibilities are about and what they mean for your city. Get also further inspiration from the related case studies. Try to list advantages and disadvantages for each option in the template provided.
