  • Vary the format – include audio or video when appropriate
  • Make it relevant – ask a question, include a quote, an example, or a narrative
  • Include visuals (images, diagrams, etc.) that support the text, when appropriate
  • Evoke emotion to make the content more memorable (Humor)
  • Avoid redundancy
  • Address one concept, procedure, or item on each page
  • Use familiar words and avoid jargon and contractions
  • When describing actions, place them in chronological order to make the sequence obvious and consistent.

  • All videos within the eLearning products include audio descriptions and closed captioning.
  • All eLearning products include a transcript or text-based notes that allow the user to read the narration if audio is turned off or muted.
  • All images (grouped images and non-text elements that convey information) have alternative text descriptions.
  • The contrast between the text and its background is readable by people with moderately low vision. The contrast ratio is at least 3:1 for large text.
  • All decorative images that do not convey information have blank alternative text. The course is compatible with a screen reader. If available, use JAWS or NVDA to test.
  • A visual check has confirmed that no hidden data is present.
  • The document has no flashing objects.
