Opening Hymn
I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light
I want to walk as a child of the light
I want to follow Je - sus
God sent the stars to give light to the world
The star of my life is Je - sus
REFRAIN
In Him, there is no darkness at all
The night and the day are both alike
The Lamb is the light of the city of God
Shine in my heart, Lord Je - sus
I want to see the brightness of God
I want to look at Je - sus
Clear sun of righteousness, shine on my path
And show me the way to the Fa - ther
REFRAIN
In Him, there is no darkness at all
The night and the day are both alike
The Lamb is the light of the city of God
Shine in my heart, Lord Je - sus
I’m looking for the coming of Christ
I want to be with Je - sus
When we have run with patience the race
We shall know the joy of Je - sus
REFRAIN
In Him, there is no darkness at all
The night and the day are both alike
The Lamb is the light of the city of God
Shine in my heart, Lord Je - sus
Prayer to San Lorenzo Ruiz (De Spirt)
O most merciful and Almighty God,
San Lorenzo Ruiz
Needed the strength to withstand
The overpowering forces of temptation
For the sake of his faith in You.
Through his prayers,
Help us to follow his example
By overcoming all life’s challenges
And eventually, increase
Our hope and love in You.
San Lorenzo Ruiz,
You lived a life true to your faith,
And behaved as a thoughtful, fair, courageous father of the family,
A witness of Christ in your life;
A model of respect, and love.
We present all our petitions
To God through your help
So that by our actions,
We may know more and love more
Jesus our Lord and Savior.
We ask for your support
and ask you to be our guide,
As we live out the teachings of our faith through your example
And in honor of your triumph
As a martyr of Christ
And defender of Christianity.
Amen.
The Liturgy of the Word (Ms. Ripandelli)A reading from the book of Exodus.
The Lord spoke to Moses and the people during their journey across the desert wilderness;
“I am going to send an angel in front of you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. Be attentive to him and listen to his voice;
Do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression; for my name is in him.”
“But if you listen attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. My angel will go in front of you.”
The word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm
Read by Mrs. Tymkow
The response is:
The angels of the Lord will guard you in all your ways.
Every day I call on you, O Lord; I spread out my hands to you. Do you work wonders for the dead? Do the shades rise up to praise you? Response
Is your steadfast love declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon? Are your wonders known in the darkness, or your saving help in the land of forgetfulness? Response
But I, O Lord, cry out to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you. O Lord, why do you cast me off? Why do you hide your face from me? Response
OUR FATHER (Read by Mr. Poon)OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US, AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

The Legacy of San Lorenzo Ruiz
Lorenzo was born in the Binondo area of Manilla, Phillipines around the year 1600 (some say it was 1594).
His father was of Chinese background and his mother was of Filipino background. His father taught him Chinese and his mom taught him Tagalog. Both his parents were Christians and they raised Lorenzo as a Catholic. He learned Spanish from the Dominican Friars. He was fully tri-lingual
Lorenzo served as an altar boy at the Binondo C Binondo Church.
He was educated by the Dominican friars for a few years and earned the title of escribano or calligrapher/ scrivener because of his skillful penmanship.
Lorenzo was a husband and father. He had three children and raised them as Catholics.
He was a very important man in his part of Binondo as he wrote letters for people, scribed books and was a clerk who kept written records.
Lorenzo’s life was going great until one day in 1636 when everything changed.
Lorenzo was accused of a crime against a Spanish citizen. Spain controlled the Philippines and he felt he would not get a fair trial. He decided to leave Binondo.
Leaving was his only option, but the ship on which he left, took him to a place where Christians were not welcome at the time …Japan.
In Japan, Lorenzo was taken prisoner. He was given the option to give up practicing Christianity. Lorenzo refused. For two years he was put in prison until he was finally put to death for not giving up his faith.
His courage, deep faith and refusal to deny God make him a strong role model for the Church.
He was honoured as the first person beatified outside of the Vatican, and the first Filipino ever to be made a saint.
We honour him on September 28 each year and we are proud to be his namesake school.
I am a Catholic and wholeheartedly do accept death for God;
Had I a thousand lives, all these to Him shall I offer.
