Revamping Instagram for

Community Activism

2 of 13

Overview

Within the context of community-based activism on Instagram, Meta is actively addressing the escalating competition shown by other apps like TikTok and Twitter. These platforms are successfully attracting and uniting younger audiences. Many of these platforms also create spaces for activism, helping users connect with causes they care about. Instagram needs to evolve to stay a go-to platform for youth interested in social change.

Conclusion

Due to our new service created with younger users in mind, we were able to add a new addition to instagram by not creating anything to crazy or overbearing and sticking to the original instagram format, in doing so, younger users who used tiktok or twitter as their main source of community engagement have gone on record to say that they not only find our design more simple , but that they even prefer our UI over apps they used to use. When all was said and done, community activism among teen users saw a spike after a few months of our service being on air slowly fixing the issue of teen users not getting active in their communities and not having a place to commune
