Stakeholders and Impact

Sponsor/Client: Archway Partnership, City of Dublin

  • The successful completion of this project will allow for full functionality of Stubbs Park and the intersection of Park Place and South Drive.
  • These locations will be available for full use to residents, commercial travel, local businesses, and tourists following intense weather events in which flooding typically occurs.
  • The project team worked closely with the City of Dublin Engineering Department to design the best possible solution, with additional resources and input provided by the City of Dublin Administrative and Public Works departments.
  • The final design of this project is a trapezoidal open

vegetated channel that runs along the majority of South Drive, the street adjacent to the park.

  • The team suggests an open channel with dimensions of a top width of 22.8 feet, a bottom width of 9 feet, depth of 2 feet, and a freeboard of 0.30 feet, resulting in a total depth of 2.3 feet.
  • Our team also determined that a side slope of 4:1 resulted in the most efficient and safest ratio to avoid extreme erosion to the channel.
  • The channel is to be lined with bermuda grass, which is the best fit considering the weather patterns of the city of Dublin.

Cost Analysis

Background and Design

  • The City of Dublin team was tasked with mitigating a flooding issue occurring at the intersection at Stubbs Park, a public park located in Dublin, Georgia.
  • The existing pipe system was undersized and inoperable in several locations.
  • The project team considered multiple design alternatives, including bioswales, an updated pipe system, and a large open channel.
  • Following an initial site assessment and hydrology calculations, the team has determined that an open vegetated channel will mitigate the flooding in the most efficient way possible.
