Domestic Violence Against Women

OVERVIEW

Domestic violence is defined as a pattern of controlling and coercive behavior that can be physical, emotional, economic, stalking and harassment, or sexual in nature.

Domestic violence is a global problem.

Domestic violence is never the victim's fault.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Domestic violence is the most common form of violence against women.

It affects women across the life span from sex selective abortion of female fetuses to forced suicide and abuse, and is evident, to some degree, in every society in the world.

OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage more people to speak up and speak out about violence against women.
  • Bring awareness to the signs of abuse or neglect.
  • Push for stronger laws and policy that protect women against domestic violence.

  1. Encourage survivors of domestic violence to talk to somebody to get help!
  2. Promote the National Domestic Violence Hotline 800-799-7233
  3. Create more resources for domestic violence survivors to create an escape plan.

  • 1 in 3 women worldwide have been subjected to either physical or sexual violence in thier lifetime.
  • 85% of domestic violence victims are women.
