Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are there icons next to each assignment?

A: The icons pictured here and those in Google Classroom match to make it easy for you to see what you need to do. If there is no icon, it is a paper assignment. If you are absent, please email your teacher to get a digital copy or pick up the paper copy when you return to class.

Q: How can I reach out to my teacher with a question or concern?

A: Email her or talk to her privately at the beginning or end of class. You could also check with a friend in class to see if it’s been answered before.

Essay Corrections

Q: How do essay corrections work?

A: After we have completed a major essay and the rubric has been returned to you, you have one week to correct your essay using my feedback as a guide. Please be sure to highlight changes you make in your essay, or I will be unable to re-score your writing. These changes should be made on your own time, not in class. You will also need to hand your original rubric back in. I will re-grade your work, and your final score will be an average of your original grade and second (final) submission.

Q: What are the different areas of IXL I should be working on?

  1. Diagnostic updates/ “Snapshot”: Go to the Diagnostic Arena. Answer 10-15 questions weekly to keep your scores pinpointed.
  2. Personal recommendations: Go to the Diagnostic Arena. Look at your score report. Click on any strand’s recommended skills for you. These are based on your performance on the diagnostic and are specific to your needs.
  3. “Recommended by your teacher” skills: Go into the Learning tab. Click the star in the top right-hand corner and look for ELA skills, or type them in in the search bar at the top of the page by code. These are skills I recommend that we are working on in our curriculum. You should work on the recommended skills for 20 minutes each or until you earn a Smart Score of 80%+.
