Partner Highlight: Ann Arbor District Library (AADL)

In 2024, AADL Archives partnered with AAPS Social Studies to bring local history to life through school history investigations and professional development. Their work included digitized archives and a powerful film screening that sparked meaningful reflection.

The AADL collaborates with Huron High School to publish and distribute the bilingual Ñ! magazine.

The AADL provides FREE field trips to 2nd graders and makes sure every student gets their own library card.

Digital Wellness Peer to Peer Course with U-M

A collaboration between the U-M Marsal School of Education, School of Information and School of Social Work pairs six graders from AAPS Middle Schools with U-M students to give our students tools to enhance digital wellness.

Meemic Insurance and Gene Butman Ford donated a 2022 F-150, materials and parts for Huron High School’s Auto Lab, giving students hands-on experience with a modern vehicle.

The Knight Foundation for Environmental Journalism at MSU

With support from the Knight Foundation, Skyline Post journalists Ashley Han and Olivia Watters (’26) investigated the Skyline wetlands and shared their work at MSU. A second grant now supports their new collaboration with Michigan Botany to document restoration efforts.

"Dr. Palladino is a professor at the College of Education at EMU who has been volunteering at Clague for the past two years with his therapy dogs, Kevin and Twix. Dr. Palladino visits our 8th grade Math Support class and also comes to visit a specific student to help with emotional regulation and anxiety on a regular basis. The students benefit greatly from these interactions and support."

For over ten years, Judy, a retired nurse, has been a dedicated and invaluable part of the Abbot Kindergarten classroom. Her kindness and willingness to assist both students and teachers make a lasting impact every day.

As a Community Engagement Specialist with the City of Ann Arbor, Jasmine developed and taught the Youth Civic and Community Engagement course, inspiring high school students to explore local issues.

“...Students learned about our community, thought critically about complex problems, and engaged thoughtfully in forums and other community events.

Students loved the course, and several said it helped them figure out new career possibilities or consider new ideas of what to study at the post-secondary level.

Rob shows up every week and has gone out of his way to support one of my students both academically and socially. My student is relatively quiet and wasn't always a willing participant when Rob came to visit. As the year has gone along, my student is excited when Rob volunteers and is willing to work and talk with Rob during his visits.

This may not seem like a big deal, but it is extremely impactful for this particular student.”

For over a decade, Angie has been a constant presence at Wines, enriching the school through art, outdoor beautification, and hands-on learning experiences. From organizing Art Night to working with students to transforming school grounds into vibrant, engaging learning spaces, her creativity and dedication have left a lasting impact.

“Ms. Contreras has come to present to our year 1 Diploma Program Spanish classes at Huron for the past few years. She is a doctoral student in Anthropology from the University of Michigan and she presents to our students about her doctoral research related to water insecurity in Mexico. Every year the students learn all about the issue and are fascinated by her discussion of her work in genetic anthropology.
