DARE: Percentages, spreadsheets, and graphs continued

Percentage = Amount (the value you want the percentage of)

Base (total population you are interested in )

X 100

  • Google Sheets – anybody can have free access to this (works similarly to Microsoft Excel)
  • Spreadsheets will do the work/math for you
  • All formulas have to start with “=“, followed by the function you want to do
  • PERCENTAGE =(amount/base)*100
  • TOTAL AMOUNT OF SOMETHING =sum(all the cells you are adding up)
  • AVERAGE =average(all the cells you are adding up)
  • Etc.

  • Of people who have diabetes, what is the breakdown (percentage) of each race? (compare each cell in B with the total in B)

GRAPHS: used to visualize data

  • Bar, Line, Pie

5 of 5

  • Compare percentage of people who have diabetes across 4 races

  • Of all people who have diabetes, compare percentage of each race
