NEW LEGISLATION: ARTS REQUIREMENT

Legal requirement: all students must complete at least one arts education course between grades 6–12�

Course criteria:

  • Must follow the NC Standard Course of Study (SCOS) for arts education
  • Must be taken in its entirety
  • Partial courses or after-school activities do not count

Middle school completion:

  • Students who completed a semester or year-long arts course in middle school (e.g., band, chorus, full arts course) have met the requirement

High school completion:

  • Students who did not complete an arts course in middle school must take an arts course in grades 9–12 to meet the requirement

Most WECIB students will only have the opportunity to take levels I and II. These are the world language courses that are used for graduation credit and admission entrance to a 4 year college/university.

FAQ: WTCC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students can only take WTCC courses that are aligned with the program of study requirements.

Students must maintain the required GPA to take WTCC courses.

Students have the option of completing a 13th year to earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

The AAS degree would require:

  • 5th period coursework
  • Summer school coursework
  • 13th year coursework
