Suspension 101

  • Suspension can be a consequence for a variety of behaviors. The Principal and Assistant Principal can suspend students for full days. Teachers can suspend students for their class period.

  • Suspension for any offense is a permanent record! It will follow you to HIGH SCHOOL and may affect your eligibility to participate in SPORTS and ACTIVITIES years after the suspension.

  • At Marsh Junior High, you will not participate in the next dance, rally, and possibly not be able to participate in promotion with your classmates if you get suspended.

  • Administration can suspend a student for up to 5 days either to home or to our in school suspension center called AFC- located on the Fairview campus.

*** NOTE: If you are suspended you will be unable to attend the following:

  • Sporting events at Chico High and Pleasant Valley (Football Games, Basketball Games, etc.)
  • The upcoming Marsh Dance

What behaviors can lead to suspension and expulsion??

  • Mutual Fighting/ Assault
  • Profanity/Vulgarity
  • Drug possession/use, distribution(selling or giving away) *if it is in your possession you will likely be suspended.
  • Stealing
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Bullying/Harassment- cyber, in person etc.
  • Bringing prohibited items to school
  • Chronic defiance

What does PROHIBITED mean?

Items that are either illegal, unsafe, or create school disruption. These items do not have any place in an educational setting.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Weapons - Guns, Knives

Replicas - Items that resemble a weapon. This would include water guns, nerf guns, etc.

Illegal substances - Alcohol, marijuana,

narcotics, prescription pills

Drug Paraphernalia - Vape pens, Jueling, Pipes, needles, etc

Electronics- Nintendo Switch, laptops from home…

Over the counter medication - Advil, cold medicine, allergy medicine, etc

Attire - No clothing containing drugs, alcohol, weapons. No gang related attire.

Energy Drinks - Monster, Red Bull, Soda

Permanent Markers - Sharpies

Consequences

Items will be confiscated.

If the item was used in an unsafe fashion, a major disciplinary action may be taken, such as suspension.

If action is repeated, further disciplinary action may be taken.

*** Illegal Items (Weapons/ Drugs/ Paraphernalia) may result in suspension and possible recommendation for expulsion
