Key Points

  • A/B Schedule with 81 minute periods, 4 minutes of passing time
  • Two 30 minute lunches and flex periods in the middle of the day.
  • Allows for 8 classes over two days. Teachers will teach five classes. Sixth period stipends are still possible.
  • This schedule can accommodate shared staff between ABIS and MHS.
  • Senior privilege for a shorter day (late arrival, early out) will remain.
  • This schedule is compatible with our RVCC and Vo-Tech programs.
  • Most schools in Somerset County use a form of extended learning periods.

Professional Development

Robust professional development is key to the

success of ELPs.

✅ Review possible schedules

✅ Conduct four site visits (Montgomery, Lawrence, Somerville, Plainfield)

✅ Debrief, Discuss and Revise

✅Meet with students and collect data (grades 9-11).

✅Peer meetings with departments and subject area teachers from other districts (January 28 PD Day).

PD Planning for 2025 and Beyond

  • Department and Staff Meetings focused on planning strategies for ELPs
  • Team of teachers and supervisors attending “Train the Trainer” sessions in March.
  • Team of teachers attending “Teaching in the Block” PD in April.
  • Content area PD in April (Math, ELA, ESL, Special Education, etc.)
  • One release day in May/June for departmental discussion and planning
  • August 29 PD day dedicated to planning and preparing for ELPs
  • October 13 PD for discussion, reflection and planning for ELPs.
  • As needs arise; PD and support will be planned and provided.
