IDEA �The unit develops a sense of optimism among learners amidst challenges. Success is essentially a motivational poem that encourages people to have ambitious goals that come true with steady effort, perseverance and dedication instead of sudden leaps and magical shortcuts.The Poet,Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow, says it has it’s share of challenges, hard work, perseverance, unwavering faith and a sense of optimism ,exploration and adaptation.

The teacher shows the video of Barack Obama giving an inspirational speech on ‘successful people had failures’. The teacher then asks a few questions to the learners. �

The teacher then divides the class into groups and asks each group to define success in their own words.

The learners present their answers, and the teacher consolidates their responses. Through this task, the teacher makes the learners aware of the power of success in their lives. By highlighting the facts and background knowledge for the same the teacher consolidates the poem “Success”.

READING PROCESS �The teacher provides opportunity to the learners to listen to the model reading of the poem with proper stress, accent, intonation and rhythm. Learners are encouraged to listen to the model reading keenly. �The teacher then asks the learners to read the poem silently and track reading. The learners are then asked to answer the following questions.
COLLABORATIVE READING �The learners are asked to sit in groups and discuss what they have understood, not understood and found interesting.
SCAFFOLDING �The learners refer to glossary to clear their doubts regarding new words. The remaining doubts are cleared through Images, demonstration and context by the teacher.

Now the learners are asked to find out any example of rhyming scheme from the poem. Then the teacher encourages the learners to create a line of their own using rhyming scheme.
