Working principle of a solar panel

  • A solar panel is a device that converts sunlight into electrical energy. It works based on the photovoltaic effect.

  • Solar panels are made of semiconductor materials, most commonly silicon. When sunlight hits the surface of the panel, particles of light called photons transfer their energy to the electrons in the silicon atoms. As a result, the electrons become energized and start moving.

  • This movement of electrons creates an electric current, known as direct current (DC). The electricity generated can be used directly or converted into alternating current (AC) using an inverter, which allows it to power household appliances.
