JROTC I & II can replace a PE Credit

Fine Arts can be Art, Theater, Digital Imaging, or any music class

Electives can be anything else you take, like Spanish I and II, or Engineering, or Auto-body, or Health Care, etc.

You have choices with upper level Science and Math classes

There are Honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment classes

How do you earn credits?

Half a credit is earned at the end of each semester for each class you pass.

  • 1st 9 weeks FINAL GRADE and 2nd 9 weeks FINAL GRADE get averaged together for a FINAL FIRST SEMESTER GRADE. If that grade is passing (60% or higher) you earn half a credit for that class.

  • 3rd 9 weeks FINAL GRADE and 4th 9 weeks FINAL GRADE get averaged together for a FINAL SECOND SEMESTER GRADE. Again, if it’s passing you get half a credit.

Credit Scenario #1

In English 9 for the 1st nine weeks, Luna earns a grade of 75% C, and the 2nd nine weeks earns a 55% F. What grade would Luna earn for the semester?

The average for the semester would be a 65% D. She would earn her English 9 credit for the semester.

Credit Scenario #2

Negan earns a World Studies 1st nine weeks grade of 50% F, and the 2nd nine weeks grade of a 60% D. What will Negan earn for the semester?

The average for the semester would be a 55% F. That means this student would have to retake the whole 1st semester of World Studies or do afterschool or summer credit recovery.

How do Semester Exams factor in?

If you have to take a semester exam in a class, the grade for the exam will be 10% of your final semester grade. This could help or hurt you if you’re close to passing or failing a course.

Exam Exemptions:

To be exempt from an exam(s) you need to have an A, B, or C and 7 or less TOTAL ABSENCES in that class for the semester.

Consequences of Failing a Class

High school is different from elementary or middle school. If you fail a class that you need for graduation, then you must repeat that class. You CANNOT graduate without the required credits.

For Example: If a student fails English 9 and Algebra during their 9th grade year, then they will take English 9 and Algebra again along with all their core classes they need for 10th grade. This means that student would have two English and two Math classes on their schedule. Please do not let this happen to you!
