But ask questions too

You can learn a lot by just sitting in on meetings. Instead of worrying about why you’re there, you can observe and absorb your colleagues’ ways of working, their perspectives on the project, and their jargon.

Last week I went to a day-long project management conference and attended several of the sessions on Agile and Scrum. I was surprised by how much of the terminology and workflows presented were already familiar.

The plus side of learning this way is that you learn the new terms and concepts in context -- specifically how your colleagues use them.

I’m usually an optional attendee for stand-ups and other meetings of the development team, but I try to attend whenever I can, because I learn so much each time -- even when it feels like the only word I really get is “metadata”.
