Preventing Infection

Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

Cleaning your hands frequently helps prevent the spread of germs.

Steps

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap and apply soap.
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.

3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.

4. Rinse your hands well under running water. Do not use a bucket of stagnant water to rinse your hands.

5. Dry you hands fully using a clean towel or air drying them.

Hand Washing Tips

In summary, wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds; use an alcohol-based hand rub if soap and water are not available.
