LINE
Your Theme:
Isn’t it just a bunch of lines on a piece?
NOPE! Notice that in each example they are not “just a bunch of lines.” But rather each one is thought through in turns of ...
Step 1: Brainstorm!
Make a list of 20 ideas. This seems like a lot but there will be a few that will stand out to you after the list is finished.
Tip: I would recommend staying away from items with many small details. If you choose to do these items you might want to zoom in and crop.
Step 2: Sketch!
Place your linoleum on your paper and trace the outline twice. Make TWO sketches from your brainstorm.
Draw from a photo whenever possible.
Can be the same idea sketched in two different compositions or two different ideas.
Step 3: Color
Use 1 color marker to color your piece. Make sure you know what is going to be inked and what is not.
This helps solve problems before it is too late.
Step 4: Transfer Image
Scribble on back
Trace onto lino block
Step 5: Carve!
Carve away any white areas first. The ink will not touch what you carve away. Use a variety of tips to get a different in line weight.
Tip: ALWAYS CARVE AWAY FROM YOUR HAND!!!!
Step 6: Print Prep
Using the materials provided prep your first print.
Roll ink flat. It should make a sound and have an orange peel texture.
Step 7: Print
Do a test print, then your official prints.
Step 8: Sign Your Print!
Once all prints are dry sign your prints and number them according to your best vs. worst.
1/6 = BEST
6/6 = WORST
And you’re done!
