11.5 Choosing a Data Display
Students will be able to decide what type of data display is best for a set of data.
Quantitative Data
Non-numerical entries that can be separated into different categories with labels
Ex: types of candy bars, eye color, favorite TV show, car models
Numerical entries that can be counted or measured
Ex: car prices, lengths of songs, weight of people, number of pets, test scores
Qualitative Data
Can you find the mean of this data?
Think about it...
Do you like cats?
Do you like cats or dogs better?
How many cats do you have?
What is your favorite color of cat?
On a scale of 0-10 how much do you like cats?
Qualitative or Quantitative Data??
A) How tall did each plant grow in Mrs. Craft’s science experiment?
B) While on a road trip how many license plates did you see from Wyoming?
C) What types of flowers were in your bouquet?
D) What job did you work at this summer?
E) How many hours did you work per week?
Types of Data Displays:
Decide what the best data display is for each situation:
The number of student council members each school year
The distribution of all your current teachers’ ages
Everyone in this classes’ favorite sport
Populations of counties in Wyoming
