PURPOSE OF FRAMING QUESTION

  • The purpose of the Framing Question is to help keep focus on why the system is the way that it is.

  • Start by asking, “What are the forces that create the current conditions?”

  • EXAMPLE: What forces account for the current responses to conflict in the Findhorn Community?

  • Forces can include: beliefs, shared values, norms, trends, agreements, policies, rules, laws, organisations, committees, groups, people etc.

  • Forces can be positive (enablers) or negative (inhibitors)

  • An enabler is a significant force in the environment that supports, encourages or increases the health and effectiveness of the system as defined by your Guiding Star.
  • An inhibitor is a significant force in the environment that undermines or prevents the health and effectiveness of the system as defined in your Guiding Star.
