Instructional/ training problem

The TELPAS assessment, or Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System, is an assessment for students in Texas public schools who are learning the English language. Currently Speaking is one domain that students perform poorly in the district. For this part of the assessment, students must record themselves answering specific questions. One of the main problems is that students do not get to practice recording themselves before they take this test.

Analysis of the gap between what is available and what should be available

Currently students are not getting enough practicing recording themselves for the assessment. They practice only speaking in partners and once in a while they speak in front of the class. What should be available is lots of practice for students to practice speaking and recording themselves throughout the day in several subjects.

Recommended solution for filling the gap

These scores can be improved by the app called Flip. Teachers need self-paced training on how to implement Flip in the classroom. Once teachers know how to use Flip, they will be able to provide opportunities for students to practice recording themselves in all subjects and will be prepared for this assessment.

Formative Evaluation

Subject Matter Expert

One To One Evaluation

For the Subject Matter Expert, it will be the Campus Technologist from Juarez Lincoln High School. He is very knowledgeable about Flip and will be able to provide feedback on the content.

For the one to one evaluation it will be a colleague from my school. She is a good tryout learner because she is not familiar with Flip. My goal is to observe how she performs on the lesson.
