Identification of Chromebook

  • Chromebooks will have a barcode and serial number for identification.
  • Chromebooks will also have a label with student name and grade.
  • Each charger will have a barcode and name label
  • Once the student logs on the first time, the Chromebook will be assigned to that student.
  • Students are not to pick at or remove labels from the device or charger.
  • Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels that are not the property of GCS.

Tracking of Chromebooks

EacEh Chromebook is installed with a device that can track the location of the Chromebook even if the device is not powered on with battery charge. This implanted tracking system is managed by a company that is responsible for tracking lost or stolen Chromebooks and retrieving them to the school.

Student Responsibilities

  • Students are responsible for the care and keeping of his/her Chromebook.
  • Students will take any malfunctioning or damaged Chromebook to the nearest Career Center for repair. A loaner will be made available.
  • Report any stolen Chromebooks to your administrator.
  • USB ports may not be used to charge personal electronic devices.

Warranty Information

GCSD Lenovo Chromebooks come with a blue case. The Chromebook warranty will be voided if the case is taken off for any reason. Please do not take off the case.

Student Responsibilities

  • Students will abide by the district’s Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Students will contact a teacher or administrator about any security issue they encounter.
  • Students will never give their login or password information to another student.
  • Students will never give personal information (address, phone number, birthdate) to anyone online.
  • Students will not access their personal account(s) (iTunes, Facebook, etc.) on their school device.
  • Students will never leave their Chromebook unattended.

Student Responsibilities

  • Students are ultimately responsible for all actions taken on their Chromebook both at school and outside of school.
  • Students will shut down and secure their Chromebook after use to protect their work and information.
  • Students will report email containing inappropriate or abusive language or questionable subject matter to a teacher or administrator at school.

Student Responsibilities

  • Students will return their Chromebook to the issuing school on the date they withdraw from school or transfer to another school.
  • Students will only download/install authorized applications, games, or software that is allowed by the school.
  • Students will not download or send any inappropriate material. When in doubt, ask the teacher before downloading or sending.
  • Students will not cyber bully.
  • Students will follow the directions of their teacher for when, how, and for what purpose to use their Chromebook.

Privacy Expectations

Students should not have an expectation of privacy in the use of the District's email, systems, or equipment. The District may, for a legitimate reason, perform the following:

  1. Obtain emails sent or received on District email.
  2. Monitor an individual's use on the District's systems.
  3. Confiscate and/or search District-owned software or equipment.

General Care

  • The Chromebook is school property. All students must follow the Greenville County’s Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Keep food and liquids away from your Chromebook.
  • Only use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen (no cleansers).
  • Always have clean hands when using your Chromebook.
  • Carry your Chromebook with both hands and the lid closed.

General Care

  • Avoid placing heavy materials such as books on top of the Chromebook as it could cause the device to break. Stack no more than 7 Chromebooks on top of one another.
  • Do not leave your Chromebook on the floor or any unstable surface. Place it on a flat, clean surface.
  • Do not leave your Chromebook in a car. The temperature swings found in a car’s interior can damage a Chromebook, and it is an inviting target for theft.
