CASE STUDY: Faculty Training at the Center for Academic Success at Pierce College
Project Title: "Empowering Faculty: Employing Course Embedded Tutors for Classroom Success"
When: Fall 2023 for publication to the Vision Resource Center Spring 2024
Where: Pierce College Center for Academic Success, Los Angeles Community College District
Impact: Improved course grades and retention rates by increasing access, improving quality, and increasing usage of course-specific tutoring.
Theory of Change: Revise the 1-2 hour interactive faculty training and make it available on the Vision Resource Center so that faculty will earn FLEX credit while learning more about what tutoring is, how tutors’ services can be tailored to their classes, and how to effectively work with tutors to provide better access to these services. This will encourage more faculty to reach out to tutors and build stronger tutor/faculty collaborations so that tutoring can become more specialized to meet the needs of each individual class offered. This will lead to more students attending tutoring with better quality services, which will lead to higher course success and retention rates among more students.

Project Title: "Empowering Faculty: Employing Course Embedded Tutors for Classroom Success"
The Problem: Roughly 40 videos and 20 outdated resources were located inside of a CAS Learning Management Center account with little interaction with staff or awareness due to disorganization and a lack of learning design around the content
The Challenge: Organize the copy and content to design an interactive experience which includes a home page, navigation, key learning information, contact information, provides the ability for feedback, institutional resources, student-to-student and student-to-teacher interactions.
Course Objectives: Given a Canvas course on the VRC hub, LACCD faculty will be able to articulate the key benefits and services of a Course Embedded Tutor (CET), schedule a meeting with a tutor (or CAS staff, and provide feedback on how to improve the program.
My Role: Work with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to organize multimedia, resources, transcribe and organize copy based on learning theory and design interactive activities and knowledge checks. Content needed to be accessible to meet culturally responsive requirements of LACCD.

Project Title: "Empowering Faculty: Employing Course Embedded Tutors for Classroom Success"
Before: Faculty were provided with stand alone videos with no additional information about who the speaker was in each video or how to contact CAS and engage with tutors. Resource links were located up at the front with no context.
After: Faculty have more detailed information in an accessible format to reach a wider audience and reinforce cognitive understanding. The content tells the story of the Center for Academic Success and those who care deeply about supporting faculty and students. Resources are provided directly including the Faculty Handbook located here.

Project Title: "Empowering Faculty: Employing Course Embedded Tutors for Classroom Success"
Before: The lose collection of videos and quizzes lacked any images or graphics
After: Using Canva,I created graphics that matched the brand guideline of Piece College and are optimized in size to scale for mobile view. I included alt tags for accessibility.

Project Title: "Empowering Faculty: Employing Course Embedded Tutors for Classroom Success"
Before: The lose collection of videos lacked personalization or emotion. It was unclear who was speaking in each video
After: I encouraged SMEs to collect testimonials from faculty and staff who had positive experiences with the program and provided credit for speakers in each video to create a welcoming experience.
