Summary

Positive Comments

  • Keeps Avery Ranch/Rutledge Elementary together.

  • Relieves Stiles Middle School and keeps neighborhoods east of Reagan Blvd. together.

  • Focuses on middle-to-high school alignment.

  • Zones most neighborhoods closer in proximity to their school.

Other Considerations

  • Adjust grandfathering and transfer policy to keep students in schools where they start (ex. allow current sixth and fifth grade students to stay in their assigned middle school through eighth grade).

Negative Comments

  • Enrolls Henry and Running Brushy middle schools above functional capacity.

  • Creates unbalanced enrollments, leading to budgeting and efficiency concerns.

  • Rezones Cold Springs/Hazelwood neighborhoods from Stiles to Wiley.

  • Rezones 3100, 3200, 3300, 3400, and 9955 back to LHS (last changed in 2016).

Scenario D Positive

  1. Keeping kids into the same MS/HS feeder pattern is important to our kids long-term development. It provides continuity for our students particularly as it relates to those kids who are engaged in academic and/or intramural athletic programs. 4.4

Community Meeting #1

  • Safety is a crucial thing for kids in schools and during the transportation. I support Scenario D considering the amount of travel required for kids. 4.1
  • The scenario D is the efficient way of organizing kids with least time on the roads and producing savings for the ISD. 4.1
  • Scenario D lowers transportation costs for the district by zoning Avery ranch to a school closer to them and reduces the time those kids spend on Saves money & time 4.1
  • In favor of Scenario D. It keeps Avery Ranch together. Our kids will go to middle school with 100% going into high school together. 4.1

10

Lion presentation to: Dublin Design

Page:

11 of 22

11

11

Scenario D Negative

  • There needs to be balance between feeder patterns and capacity. Some schools are overutilized while others are underutilized. 4.2

Community Meeting #1

  • We want continuity for our kids. Leander will be over capacity and growing and Cedar Park will be over and falling. The likelihood of us being rezoned again in a few years is high. 4.2
  • We want our schools to not be overcrowded. 4.1
  • Keeping kids into the same MS/HS feeder pattern is important to our kids long-term development. It provides continuity for our students particularly as it relates to those kids who are engaged in academic and/or intramural athletic programs. 4.0
  • We have one of the highest debt per student rations in the state. Having some schools overcrowded and building portables while having other schools with empty classrooms is poor use of district funds and resources. 4.0

13

Scenario D Positive

  • Distance to schools Scenario D seems to keep neighborhoods closer to their school. 4.6

Community Meeting #2

  • Scenario D does a good job of keeping communities together. 4.6
  • Scenario D gives the most consistent feeder patterns. Consistency throughout school transitions is important for kids. 4.6
  • Scenario D is a good solution. It decreases the distance from most neighborhoods to their schools along with decreasing commute times. 4.6
  • Scenario D will not make everyone happy but it will make more than the majority happy and makes sense. It keeps Avery Ranch together. 4.6

13

Lion presentation to: Dublin Design

Page:

14

14

Scenario D Negative

  • It’s important to keep elementary kids together. During this trying growth period keeping community together is crucial. 4.4

Community Meeting #2

  • 1675 needs to remain at Akin, Stiles and Rouse. Please stop changing them!! 4.3
  • Leave kids alone if they’re already enrolled in middle school! Do not move kids in middle of attendance at a particular middle school. Let them finish at that school!!! 4.2
  • 1675 going to Akin then Wiley and Rouse makes zero sense. They get to Wiley and don’t know anyone! Middle school is hard enough. And having moved these kids several times before, you are asking too much to rezone them again. 4.2
  • Wherever a student starts, they should finish. 4.2

  • Provides relief for Leander and Stiles middle schools.
  • Moves Wiley MS students zoned for Glenn High School to Danielson MS
  • Stiles MS considerations:
    • Uses Ronald Reagan Boulevard (north of RR 1431) as a natural barrier – NBCDs east of this barrier would remain at Stiles MS and those west would be rezoned to Wiley MS.
  • Wiley MS considerations:
    • NBCD 1625 rezoned to Wiley MS and Rouse HS to align middle school to high school feeder pattern.
  • Henry MS considerations:
    • The Rutledge Elementary zone (NBCDs 1710, 1825, 1830, 1845, 1860) rezoned to Henry MS to maintain elementary to middle school feeder pattern.
  • Cedar Park MS considerations:
    • NBCDs 2075, 2200 and 2225 rezoned to Cedar Park MS to align middle school to high school feeder pattern.
    • NBCDs 2000 and 2010 rezoned to Cedar Park MS and Cedar Park HS for Henry MS relief and to continue an aligned middle school to high school feeder pattern.
  • Running Brushy MS considerations:
    • NBCD 4770 rezoned to Leander MS for Running Brushy MS relief.
    • NBCDs 3100, 3200, 3300, 3400, 9955 remain at Running Brushy MS and are rezoned to Leander HS to align middle school to high school feeder pattern without overcrowding Cedar Park MS.
  • Cedar Park HS projected enrollment decreases while Leander HS projected enrollment increases.
