  • In order to build background, a video about democracy in Athens will be projected. This is both an example of one type of means of representation and it will engage students

  • It will provide context and basic concepts although there are other concepts that will not be addressed in the unit or the activities

Mini lesson

  • After discussing the information provided by the video we will address the information provided by the textbook (text as a means of representation)
  • First some of them will read the information aloud.
  • Then I will explain the concepts, their similarities and differences

MINI LESSON

  • A graphic organiser I designed will be used in order to delve into the similarities and differences providing a more visual means of representation.

ACTIVE LEARNING

  • To promote interaction and participation students will discuss about democracy in Athens and democracy nowadays. Focusing on:
    • The role of women.
    • The role of foreigners.
    • The role of slaves.
    • Direct democracy
    • Representative democracy.

When approaching learning the students will be provided with several options for assessement.
