RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Classroom instruction is three days in a row and utilized for: questions related to digital content, group problem solving, and socialization.
  • Studies show these to be most effective for in-person teaching.
  • Social distancing measures should be followed, as per CDC guidelines (point-based, teams)
  • Masks will likely need to be worn, but should be gamified (point-based, teams)
  • Invest in technology for all students, to promote optimal remote learning (+NPV over the year)
  • Digital learning should include a combination of: pre-recorded lectures, relevant pre-made materials (Khan Academy).
  • Pfizer has recently applied for EUA for pediatric vaccines, which will facilitate vaccinations.
  • Very low sensitivity for sending children home.
  • 3 days in person, 2 days virtual (point-based, individual for attendance)

Impact on Ravenswood School District

Projected impact

Key Trend

  • With constraints placed on the amount of time that students spend in-person, this precious resource should have its value maximized
  • Far too much time in the current classroom is spent on lecturing, self-work, and passive forms of instruction that detract from available resources meant for socialization, interaction, and active engagement and participation
  • Utilizing remote learning centers for online lecturing and in-person classrooms for direct, active instruction will help ensure all student are effectively taught
  • The rapid shift to digital learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has laid the foundation for future remote learning and instruction
  • With cases still on the rise and decentralization of public works likely in both the short- and long-term, embracing of hybrid forms of teaching will be imperative
  • Demand for teachers and school support staff is increasing as the available supply of certified instructors diminishes, making distance learning an effective avenue for ensuring that students have active face-to-face communication
