GLOBAL YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAM

TPW is running an Online Summer Program which can be done from anywhere and upon successful completion, provides High School Students, at minimum, 36 hours of volunteering credit.

Program Dates & Student Commitment

  • 6 weeks (June 8 - July 15, no meeting on July 6th due to American Independence Day)
  • ~6 hours a week (includes weekly 1 hour zoom meeting to share a report, pictures, and impact)

Eligibility

  • High School Student or 13-18 years of age
  • Able to commit to at minimum 6 hours per week for 6 weeks (June 8 - July 20)
  • Self Driven and has the desire to support the local/global community
  • Creative and focused on driving social impact

Program Process

  • Students will choose to either do the standard six week Global Youth Program (themes/weeks on Slide 6) or the Impact Leader Program (development of their own project with mentor guidance - more information provided in the first meeting).
  • Each week, they will make progress towards their specific, indicated goals set such as raising a certain amount of money or creating a plan for their Impact Leader Project.
  • Every Saturday morning, we will have group cohort meetings to discuss progress, include guest speakers, and reflect on a variety of topics to instill a sense of appreciation and desire to increase change in the world.
  • Students will upload their hours into the designated form & will be given a certificate at the end of the program, confirming their hours with the organization.

Set Program Information - Program Theme - Be The Change

Week 1: Addressing Problems in Society & Community Improvement Petitions & Orientation

- Write a letter to a local government official regarding a prevalent problem you see in your community. (Propose a solution as well).�**You must send this letter to get volunteer credit.**

- Set up a petition to get the word out about the problem and to get people on board with a proposed solution/repeal of a law.

- What is a Peace Warrior? + Self-Reflection Discussion & What is GYP?

Week 2: Social Crowdfunding Training

- Social Crowdfunding training - learn how you can make an impact in your community by social fundraising

- Start a TPW social fundraiser and raise minimum $200 for TPW “Do No Harm India”

Week 3: Homeless Care Kits

Create homeless care kits to give out to the local homeless population. (Flyer with instructions to be given)

Week 4: Clothes/Food/Books Drive

- Clean out your closet and donate unused or slightly used clothes and shoes to your local homeless shelters, specialized thrift stores (avoid Goodwill if possible), Salvation Army, etc.

- Look around your home and neighborhood to collect all books that can benefit others. Donate these books to your local library

- Gather canned goods from neighbors & look through your own pantry to gather non-perishables for donation to food pantries, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters.

Week 5: Recycling/Composting Drive & Reflections (SEPARATE HOURS)

With the advent of new studies showing the negative impact many human actions have on their environment, it is important to address our actions and improve sustainability.

-This project will focus on creating a recycling campaign to encourage others to recycle more, involve the organization of park-cleanups in your community, and composting/encouraging others to compost
