• Peer-reviewed
• Usually have to pay to submit
• Subscription based
• Usually most common way of disseminating work
• Some are highly specialized journals, some cover broader topics
• Mostly read by academics in the field
• Sometimes associated with memberships to organizations

Conference Presentation

• Many academic organizations host annual conferences for members and academics in the field
• Good place to present about work being done
• Some fields have requirements for presenting at a certain number of local, national, and international conferences
• Fantastic place to network with other like-minded individuals

Poster Presentations

• Also usually take place at annual conferences
• Usually close to exhibitors hall
• Short 5 min or more synopsis of results to whomever comes by
• Almost exclusively about research results
• Again, sometimes required by institutions
• Grad students also sometimes required to present

Faculty Presentation

• Usually upon invitation by a university or individual college or department
• Also common for within the university by professors just completing research
• Presentation of findings from research to other professors and students about work

Book Publishing

• Potentially method with the widest reach
• Usually based on dissertation level work, or compilation from long-term research process
• Academic books aimed at other academics
• Non-fiction books with a different style to appeal to wider audience
• “Popular authors” & “Coffee table” books - need to be highly scrutinized
• Sometimes authors have limited academic experience in the field
