En inglés hay 4 tipos de oraciones:

  1. Oraciones declarativas: Pueden ser afirmativas o negativas. En ellas el sujeto es de carácter obligatorio y va antes del verbo.

2. Oraciones interrogativas:

​

Preguntas que se responden con un sí o no

(Yes-no questions)

Preguntas que requieren más información para ser respondidas (Wh-/how questions)

Se construyen con el siguiente formato:

​

VERBO AUXILIAR + SUJETO + VERBO PRINCIPAL + ….. ?

Ejemplo: Are Steroids worth the risk?

Se construyen con el siguiente formato:

​

PALABRA INTERROGATIVA + VERBO AUXILIAR + SUJETO + VERBO PRINCIPAL + ….. ?

3. Oraciones exclamativas:

  • Llevan signo de exclamación sólo al final de la oración.

Ejemplos:

  • How terrible! (HOW + ADJETIVO)
  • What a fantastic article! (WHAT + A/AN + ADJETIVO + SUSTANTIVO)

3. Oraciones imperativas:

​

  • Son usadas para dar órdenes, instrucciones, consejos, advertencias y explicaciones. También se usan para hacer invitaciones y pedidos.
  • Se enuncian utilizando el verbo base (infinitivo incompleto), no llevan sujeto (el mismo está implícito y es “you”) y no se usan ni modales ni marcadores de tiempo ni aspecto.

Ejemplos:

  • Contact staff for more information.

​

  • Don’t forget to confirm assistance.

  • Lista de acciones a ser llevadas a cabo.
  • Uso de oraciones imperativas.
