Engage: Read a book or show one of the videos about plants from the materials section. Talk about what makes a seed grow.
1
Introduce: Have them play the card game: Everyone is standing still until they get a card. They do the motion on the card. The cards can be seed related or motion related. Discuss what told them to start moving.
2
Model: Show them that if you use an envelope for one character, another character has to receive the envelope in order to start their action. Compare it to getting a phone call. Both people need the phone in order to talk to each other. Show the extension projects. Have students go and create a plant growing project.
4
Model: Review the flag button, and the when touched button events. Show them the broadcast tools on Scratch JR. and how using this event will cause another character to start. Show the preview of project.
3
Share: Do a partner share and they share their projects and have students discuss how the broadcast was used?
5
Debrief: Discuss what was difficult about this project. Discuss what went well. Ask students how they debugged their problem. Ask students to turn to their neighbor and discuss the sequence of their project.
