UPSIDES

OF OUR APPROACH

  • Easy for anyone to build
  • Instructors/librarians can easily modify existing tutorials
  • Dead simple for the end-user
  • Easy to copy content pieces from other forms

DOWNSIDES OF OUR APPROACH

  • Very minimal formatting options
  • Can be hard to figure out how to make it totally accessible (though it’s possible!)
  • Faculty have to fill out something else in order to make their own copy
  • In order to let people copy it, you have to set it to “anyone in your org can edit.”

IMPACT

  • How is it being used
    • to replace F2F instruction
    • in addition to synchronous instruction
    • in classes we’ve never worked with before
  • Librarians are copying and tailoring tutorials for their own classes
  • Very positive feedback from instructors

IMPACT

(UPDATE!)

  • Anthropology assessment
    • Rubric assessment
    • Compared papers of students who had embedded librarian/tutorial vs. papers of students who didn’t
    • Mean score of students who had embedded librarian/tutorial: 43/50
    • Mean score of students who did not have either: 29/50

I just wanted to follow up and say that the Library Assignment was a huge success! I've never had so many students actually complete this correctly with peer-reviewed sources in correct citation format. This is a great tool.
