School-wide Title I Program

  • What is Title I?
    • Schools receive funds based on the number of low-income children who receive free and reduced lunch.
    • Schools with 40% or more of its children from low-income families qualify as Title I.
    • Glynn Middle School participates in a school-wide Title I program.
    • Title I status is not based on achievement scores.

  • What is the intent of Title I, Part A?
    • To help all children obtain a high quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state and academic standards and assessments.
    • To focus on promoting reform in high-poverty schools.

  • What is the transition between ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) and ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act)?
    • FY17 was a transition year between ESEA of 1965 and reauthorization.

Title I Funding: School-Wide

  • A school-wide program is supplemental. It is based on the Comprehensive Needs Assessment which informs our school-wide plan and drives our school budget. Our school-wide Title I program allows for more flexibility in the use of Title I funds to:
    • Hire teachers, paraprofessionals, parent involvement coordinators
    • Utilize models/programs that strengthen the academic program of the school

School-Wide Title I Goals for 2023 - 2024

  1. In FY24, teachers will increase the student achievement in reading as measured by the Georgia Milestones Level 2 and above from 79.4% to 80%.
  2. In FY24, teachers will increase the student achievement in math as measured by the Georgia Milestones Level 2 and above from 76.9% to 77.6%.

Parent Family Engagement

  • Title I requires schools to develop strategies which build the capacity of parents to be involved in the education of their child.
  • Parents/Legal Guardians have the right to participate in the education of their child.
  • Studies have shown that children do better in school when their parents/guardians are actively engaged in their child’s learning.
