Why did God Make Animals?

• A job for man to do (Genesis 2:19)
• A resource for man (Genesis 1:26)
• For food (Genesis 3 onward)
• For sacrifice as a foreshadowing of the Lamb of God (Genesis 3 onward)
• For companionship
• For inspiration and teaching
• For a balanced and healthy ecosystem

Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, ... wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds, kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, young men and young women, old men and children. Psalm 148:7-12

The Climax of God’s Creation

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1: 26-28

• God has both.
• God gave both to humans. They make us alive.
• Animals only have ruach.
• God uses it to give life and to take life.
• God will reclaim it from each person when they die.

God arrived on the scene bringing light, energy, and information.

God set time and space into motion.

Created the setting and provided nutrients and protection

In a display of glory, God defined time and provided a local source of energy

God provided food, resources, a sustainable ecosystem, and inspiration.

God made animals for man’s benefit and enjoyment

Then, God made mankind in His image.

Why are Humans the Climax of God’s Creation ?

• Everything created up to this point has been for the benefit of man.
• We were made in the image of God (a pedigree).
• We were given an assignment.
• We were given a position.
• We were given (on loan) two of God’s attributes, neshama and ruach, animals only have ruach.

Let everything that has breath (נְשָׁמָה nᵊšhāmâh) praise the Lord.
