What was the aim of the EP? (i.e. to learn a language, learn a skill, gain experience in a certain environment, etc.)

  • The aim of this EP was the gain experience on what it is like to be a med student. You will learn multiple jobs in the field of medicine.
  • Gain the experience to live in a dorm and having a schedule based on what you want to do.

What kinds of things did you do? What skills/experience did you gain?

  • We were there for three weeks so each week was split to different themes. FIrst week was anatomy, Second week was public health, third week was neuroscience.
  • We also got to dissect sheep brain, pig hearts, cow eyes, pig liver
  • We got to feel and see actual human body parts
  • Lucky we were able to use the simulator called Da Vinci for the second part of the day when we were learning about OB GYN

What was the overall goal of your EP? What did you do/learn/accomplish?

What your day/week typically looked like

  • I would wake up around 6 to get ready fro classes
  • Breakfast was served around 7
  • Classes would start around 8:30 and we would walk to the medical school
  • Lunch would begin from 12
  • Classes would resume until 4
  • After 4 we could do anything like going to the gym, or the activities planned by the RA’s

If you were on a campus/abroad program, talk about where you stayed, what you did for meals etc.

We stayed at the 1st year resident hall and it was really hot since the rooms don’t have A/C.

What was your daily or weekly schedule like?

How I knew I wanted to do the program

  • Originally this was not a program that I was going to apply. This was a last option which I was still eager about since I was able to dorm. I wanted to experience the dorming life and a life of a med student.

What the application consisted of

  • The application consisted of essays and supplemental essays. My specific application required a test which was just on the handbook about the hospital so everyone could be safe.

What support did I get during the application

  • You have essay assistance and help overall from Emily with any questions

What the hardest part was

  • For me there was no hard part other then the fact that the test was just long and tiring. You don’t have to finish the test in one sitting but it was time consuming.

How did you decide to apply for this program? What was the application process like?

  • This program was career oriented and it helped me strengthen my decision in medicine. I now am more committed to pursue medicine.

How did this experience shape you? What learnings will you take with you in the future?
