1. Academic Achievement (GPA and Curriculum Rigor):

GPA: This is consistently ranked the #1 factor, as it shows your ability to succeed in college-level coursework.
Rigor: Admissions officers look at the difficulty of your classes (AP, IB, dual enrollment, or honors). Challenging yourself is crucial.
Trends: Upward grade trends (improving over time) are highly valued.

2. Extracurricular Distinction and Passion:

Depth over Breadth: Colleges prefer to see deep commitment and leadership in a few activities rather than a shallow list of many clubs.
Contribution: They want to know how you will add value to their campus community, such as through sports, arts, or volunteer work.

3. Character and Personal Qualities (via Essay & Recommendations):

Personal Voice: The essay, or personal statement, allows you to show your personality, maturity, and self-awareness.
Letters of Recommendation: These provide insight into your character, work ethic, and intellectual curiosity from a teacher or counselor's perspective.

Remediation/Credit Recovery

Credit Recovery Information
All credit recovery courses are completed through the BYU High School Suite and are loaded directly to your student Canvas account.
Per new Google regulations regarding the use of YouTube (a tool used in many BYU course materials), a parent/student consent form must be signed and returned BEFORE you can be enrolled in any classes.
Visit Lisa Wilcken in the Registrar’s Office to pick up a copy of the consent form, or you can download and print one.
Please Note:
Forms must be signed by both parent and student.
Forms must be returned in person to Lisa Wilcken.
Emailed forms will not be accepted.
Cost of Courses:
$20 per quarter for remediation credit (can be covered by a fee waiver)
$40 per quarter for original credit (cannot be covered by a fee waiver)
