A Review of Romans 1 to 8 (part 1)

SUBJECT OF ROMANS: THE GOSPEL

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (1:16)

CONDEMNATION ON SIN

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. (1:18)

Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? (2:3)

JUSTIFIED THROUGH REDEMPTION

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. (3:23-24)

A Review of Romans 1 to 8 (part 2)

ABRAHAM’S EXAMPLE

And to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised. For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. (4:12-13)

RESULTS OF BEING JUSTIFIED

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. (5:10)

IDENTIFYING WITH CHRIST

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (6:4)

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

A Review of Romans 1 to 8 (part 3)

POWERLESSNESS OF THE FLESH

But I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. (7:23)

THE FLESH CONTRASTED WITH THE SPIRIT

In order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (8:14)

And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (8:23)

Romans 9;11, 16

Though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls.

So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
