Info, Care, and Tips

These slides are designed to help students and parents understand the care, expectations, and functions of district Chromebooks.

General Info

  • Each student in grades 6-12 will be issued a Chromebook (some exceptions may apply for students who benefit from different devices)�
  • Some elementary students will be issued devices for use in other programming, like tutoring

  • Filtering will be in place for all devices when using the district network

  • Filtering will be be in place off-campus when logged into Google Chrome with a district Google account. Video explanation

  • The district has the right to confiscate and search personal devices if district policies are not followed or if misuse is suspected

Be Safe and Responsible

Always store your device in a safe and secure place

  • Avoid keeping it in cold or hot places
  • Do not leave it unattended

*Only Hudsonville student and staff Google accounts can login to district Chromebooks

Chromebook Care

  • Transport the Chromebook in a protective case, if possible. If moving it outside the case, carry it closed & with two hands.�
  • When plugging / unplugging power or headphones, do so gently: pull straight out by the thick part of the cord

  • Do not stack items on the Chromebook or put pressure on it

Chromebook Care

  • Make sure nothing is on the keyboard when closing it.

  • Keep the device and case free of stickers and other decor, except for the provided name labels.

  • To clean, wipe gently with a soft cloth (lightly dampen w/ water if needed). Make sure liquid does not pool.

Students can bring non-functioning devices to the media center during school hours and exchange it for a loaner device

*Loaner devices are under the same use and insurance agreement as assigned devices

1.) Open Chromebook main menu from the clock to adjust settings

Touch Pad

Click: Just press down on the touchpad. Tap-to-click is enabled by default. You can turn off tap-to-click in settings if you’d like

Right-click: Click the touchpad with two fingers

Scroll: Place two fingers on the touchpad and move them up and down to scroll vertically, left and right to scroll horizontally

Drag and drop: Click the item you want to move with one finger. With a second finger, move the item. Release both fingers to drop the item at its new location

Find Files & Move to Google Drive

  1. Screenshots, videos, and saved images store in Downloads folder
  2. Press or to search for and open the Files app
  3. Drag files to Google Drive to access them on other devices
  4. Two-finger click to rename file

  1. Drag a tab down to create a new window

Offline Use

Users can work in Docs, Slides, & Sheets without internet. Changes will sync when the device next gets online

If offline is not working, type chrome://extensions in the web address bar and check to make sure the Google Docs Offline extension is loaded and turned on
