How to use the updated curricula
Introduction
This trainer guide will explain to you the changes made to The Next Economy, Core Life Skills & Employability curriculums.
Butterfly Works worked alongside SOS to update the content and develop new formats to support trainers.
Butterfly Works first conducted research with trainers, youth coaches, students and more to understand the needs for new materials.

What have we changed- and why?
WHAT: New Powerpoint templates for each session in French and English
WHAT: New exercises and resources on digital skills, online marketing, personal branding and design thinking
WHAT: Facilitation tips have been added to each session Powerpoint
WHY: These were the top desired topics to be added to the curriculum from the research. They have been woven throughout and replaced some activities so the course is not lengthened
WHY: Engagement is always a challenge but especially since teaching remotely- Facilitation tips on both online and offline teaching have been added throughout the PPTs to complement the existing training guides
WHY: Trainers were having to create PPTs from the session PDFs already. A template helps provide a structure and encourage customization and localization

WHAT: Facilitation tips include structured moments for localization
WHY: Trainers are naturally localizing the content by providing their own examples. A structure makes this easier to do and a more seamless part of the curriculum
WHAT: Gender as a topic has been woven throughout the sessions
WHY: There was a desire to weave the topic of gender throughout the sessions more seamlessly. Making the topic more practically applied to the content
WHAT: Facilitation tips include suggestions to cater for varying student levels- so more advanced students can learn more and less advanced can be better supported
WHY: This was a key outcome from the research that support on teaching varied student levels is needed

WHAT: Added videos and online tools related to sessions
WHY: Within various session PPTs are some videos and online tools to make the content more engaging and support developing digital skills in the students. These can be shared when teaching online or offline
WHAT: Gender and Digital Lens Introduction Slides in each Session powerpoint
WHY: It is important to use a gender lens and digital lens in each session, which means that as a trainer, you understand why these two topics are important and you can play with them, add them in activities where you think they fit.

Guidelines slide
Each session starts with a slide containing guidelines on how to adapt it to your needs, context and timeframe.
Image and icons slide
These slides contain stock images and icons that can help you to visualise content. You can use these to make your slides more visually attractive.
Note: they are invisible for students when presenting.
Gender and Digital Lens
These hidden slides explain the importance of gender and digital as two topics that run through the whole curriculum and give you tips on how to incorporate these topics into your activities.
Skip or Add Slides
Facilitator content and optional slides have been added as ‘skipped’ slides, these will not appear in the presentation.
Space for Localization
We have left space for where we recommend tailoring the content to your context.
Learning methods: online, offline, blended
We have given options to do an activity online/digitally. You can use this for blended learning sessions, but also in face to face sessions to let students practice their digital skills.
As a trainer, you can decide and prioritize which tools are most relevant for students to practice as they are used in the workplace.
Facilitator Notes in Comments
In the notes section you will find some advice, tips and tricks to support with facilitation of the session. These notes support and add to the facilitation tips that are in the session PDFs.

Within the slides themselves- you will find additional tips and notes highlighted in yellow.
Links to Other Sources
Some slides include links to additional resources- either online tools or extra reading for more advanced students
Please add or adapt links as you see fit when using the template!
