IT'S EASY TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE WITH YOUR WAY OF USING FOOD.
ABOUT 40 PERCENTS OF OUR FOOD IS WASTED!
ABOUT 95 PERCENT OF OUR FOOD WASTE ENDS UP IN LANDFILLS.
YOU CAN REDUCE FOOD WASTE BY BUYING STRATEGICALLY AND STORING IT PROPERLY.
Wasting less and helping feed hungry people
Donate wasted food for the animals
Recycle the cooking oil
If all this makes you wonder, ask yourself “How can I help, apart from trying to finish my cabbage?” Here are a few easy ideas.
Consider portions
Look at the labels
Freeze it
Compost
Think charitably
Learn more about food labels.
“Best by” is about the food’s quality: finish your bread by Thursday or it may taste stale.
“Use by” or “Expiration date” are about food safety.
Try to finish off all the food that’s in your fridge while it’s usable.
Instead of pilling everything onto your plate in one go, consider multiple portions.
This way, you‘re only taking what you might actually eat, and anything left on the plate can be stored as leftovers.
(And – of course – eat the leftovers afterwards)!

If there’s food your family can’t eat or save, consider composting it.
If used properly, food scraps can be included into soil, to help your garden grow.
That gives a second life to eggshells, wilted lettuce and other waste – keeping food out of landfills.
Did your dad make more casseroles than your family can consume?
Instead of letting it go stale in the back of the fridge (yuck!), you can freeze food to preserve it.
This way, it can be safely eaten at a later date.
Help food banks by giving supplies that might otherwise get wasted.
When it’s not safe to do this in person, consider a virtual food drive.
Instead of collecting canned food to donate, you can raise money for the food bank online - so it can later buy what people need most, with as little waste as possible.
