Basic Information

    • All students must select one language� -First choice not guaranteed
    • Students must study this language for a minimum of three years
    • No switching languages once enrolled at HTHS
    • Placement test in May for students to place into Spanish level 2

(Cambridge Latin Course)

    • Culture associated with readings include daily life, Roman religion, entertainment, travel, and the military.
    • Reading method – new grammar concepts are presented within readings – very student friendly
    • National Latin Exam: 80+% success rate annually

    • Continuation of advanced grammar
    • Rome/Quintus saga conclusion
    • Cultural topics include city and country life, political and literary careers, mythology, and marriage.
    • Anthology in 2nd semester includes works by authors such as Ovid, Catullus, Virgil, Pliny et alii
    • National Latin Exam scores open scholarship opportunities
    • Field trip to museum/ cultural experience

Seal of Biliteracy

-The Seal of Biliteracy awards hard working world language learners who are able to speak, read, comprehend and write in two languages at a high level of proficiency.

-Students awarded the seal will receive the seal on their diploma and are presented a cord for graduation; they can also indicate their scores on college applications.

-World language proficiency will be demonstrated through an applicable exam: � -ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) exam for Spanish and French � -ACTFL Latin Interpretive Reading Assessment (ALIRA) for Latin.

-Exams will be given in the spring of Junior year to eligible students

-Eligibility:� -Current Juniors � -92 cumulative average in their world language class� -Endorsement from World Language teacher
