b. Free write- write about any topic you would like to: Sports, food, hobbies, vacation, summer, classes, etc..

c. Minimum of 12 lines.

60 Second Fix

  • Feet flat on the floor
  • Hands in lap or on legs

Unit One- #1 to #5 test...

  • Unit One Test-
    • Use #2 pencil
    • You may access only your green textbook during test.
    • Place all your belongings in your backpack. Zip closed.
      • Cell phone- power off
      • Smart watches
      • Any notes or paper
      • Pencil boxes
  • After test, grab a “Letters About Literature” Brochure.
    • Read at least 5 letters, from various levels (categories)
    • Choose your favorite letter, then get a laptop and go to today’s powerpoint. Begin working on Unit One packet.

      1. On page 25 of Unit One packet, complete Activity #1 - Background. List 10 facts from page 196 to 198 in green textbook.
      2. Page 25- Activity #2 - List 10 important facts or definitions from pages 196 to 198 in green textbook
      3. On page 26- Activity #3- Write a paragraph using 5 of the definitions from activity #2
      4. Grab a Letters About Literature booklet and read
      5. Activity #4- Cite 4 quotes, add year of booklet (on cover), student author, author recipient
      6. Activity #5- Dialectical Journal using 4 quotes from the Letters About Literature Booklet.

  • Choose one letter about literature that you would like to use for your dialectical journal.
    1. Read the letter and select 4 quotes you would like to use for your dialectical journal. Jot down those 4 quotes on page 26.
    2. For your dialectical journal on page 2 7, use the 4 quotes from page 26.
    3. Page 28 questions-
      1. List 3 books that you would consider writing about for a letter.
      2. List 3 scenes / characters that changed you. Why?
      3. Identify 3 ways you have changed as a result of reading those works.
      4. Choose one book / story / poem that you will use for letters about literature.

Name Game...

  1. Start with student closest to the door
  2. Each student will…

a. Say your first name

b. Add “and I like ____________” (Must start with the first two letters of your name.)

c. Example, My name is Diane and I like dinosaurs.

3. The next student does the same, then adds each student before him/her, as well as what each person likes.

4. What if I mess up? That student re-states their name and what they like, and then you start all over until you get it right……. Let’s get started!
