1st Grade

Week 11.19.2021

2 of 7

This week we focused on...

Math: The 1st graders reviewed part-part-whole in addition equations. The class also started a new unit on number lines. The students practiced putting numbers in order on a life size number line and later in the week, they tried to figure out the missing number on the line. Lastly, the class practiced using a number line to add.

Writing: This week the 1st graders started a new unit of How To writing. The students will be writing How To books this trimester and teaching peers and teachers how to do or make something. The students brainstormed a list of activities (i.e. playing a sport, instrument, 1st grade classroom routines, making a sandwich, etc.) they know how to do.

Reading: In Daily 5, the class continued practicing rhyming words and identifying the endings of those words. The students also continued to identify the difference between non-fiction and fiction books. Then, the class discussed reasons why authors may write nonfiction.

Theme: This week we started discussing how collaboration is going to be important in an upcoming project in Theme. The students partnered up and asked questions to get to know their partner - practicing listening and speaking.

EE: The 1st graders help make veggie stew from the harvests from our gardens! The students LOVED the stew and asked for more to share with everyone at home. Ms. Naomi also visited our class and we discussed what symbiosis is and provided examples of them (i.e. bee/flower).

PBIS: Mrs. Gernady read One to us and we discussed how kindness affect others and strategies to stand up for yourself and others.
